Northern Pike

The northern pike Esox Lucieus is a predatory fish that mostly eats other smaller fish but will also eat frogs, crawfish or even mice and rats.

Northern pike as its name implies is a fish of the cold northern waters where it is the top predator in the freshwater lakes of the North. Pike inhabit protected, weedy bays and will retreat to deep, and therefore cooler waters during the hottest summer months.

They are usually taken by trolling, or casting plugs or spoons. Pike are at the same time a prized game fish and a hated trash fish. Which you just caught depends on where you live. Pike are considered excellent table fare. Unlike trout you should remove the skin before cooking.
