Shadowfin soldierfish - Myripristis adusta

The Shadowfin Soldierfish Myripristis adusta aka Bronze Soldierfish live in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The are found from East Africa and east to the Line, Society, and Tuamoto islands. They are absent from the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, Oman, and the Persian Gulf.

The Shadowfin Soldierfish inhabits coral reef and drop-offs along steep channel slopes. They occur singly or in small groups. As you can see from the big eyes they are nocturnal, hiding in crevasses or beneath ledges during the daytime and emerging to feed at night.

They feed primarily on plankton and crab larvae.
