Red Shiner - Notropis lutrensis

Red Shiners are a small shiner that lives throughout most of the central part of the North American continent. The range as far North as Minnesota and as far South as Mexico.

They live in small ponds and quiet streams and are omnivorous in their eating habits. These shiners rarely reach sizes greater than 3 inches. The male red shiners become more colorful during spawning.
