Gulf Flounder - Paralichthys albigutta

The Gulf Flounder is brown on top and whiteish on bottom (actually its right side). As with all flounders the actual coloring reflects the color and patterns of the water bottom. The Gulf Flounder can be identified from other very similiar flounders by the 3 eye-like spots forming a triangle on its brown body. The tail fin is longest in the middle.

The Gulf Flounder is very similiar in appearance to the Southern Flounder which is more common.

Gulf Flounder commonly weigh 1 to 2 pounds.
