Escolar (Lepidocybium Flavobruneum)

The Escolar has a typical mackerel type body with four to six finlets behind the second dorsal and anal fins and the keel typically associated with mackerels and tunas. Escolar are a deep water specimen which make them a rare catch amoung recreational fisherman. Best times to catch them are at night when they come closer to the surface than during the day but still quite deep.

They are dark brown to black in color and grow to be fairly large, at least 5 feet long. They feed on squids, crustaceans and smaller fish. They range world wide in tropical and temperate seas.
