Bald Cypress

Bald Cypress - Taxodium distichum: A tall tree 100 to 150 feet tall. A heavily buttressed bole which is commonly fluted as well. Root systems have numerous knees that extend up through the ground surrounding the base of the tree.
Leaves are deciduous, 2 ranked yellowish-green color.
Cones are about 1 inch in diameter almost round.
Bark is fibrous, scaly and commonly peels off in thin long strips.
Range in the Atlantic and Gulf coastal plan usually in wet swampy areas. Bald Cypress trees grow well (actually faster) on dry land but are not normally found there because they are not able to compete with the other vegetation.
