Yellowtail Snapper (Ocyurus chrysurus) are a pretty fish whose colors are pretty distinctive making identification fairly easy. Most notable feature is the yellow stripe that starts at the nose crosses the eye, travels the length of the body and merges into an entirely yellow tail.
The Yellowtail Snapper is one of the smaller snappers rarely getting larger than 5 pounds.
Yellowtail snapper juveniles are found grassbeds and back reefs while the adults are found around coral reefs or over some type of structure. They range from Maine to Brazil and all points inbetween.
