The Yellowlip Emperor (Lethrinus xanthochilus) ranges widely in the Indo-Pacific region and has been found from the Red Sea and east Africa to Micronesia and French Polynesia to southern Japan and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
They prefer sandy or rubble bottoms near coral reefs. The Yellowlip Emperor is most easily recognised by the yellow upper lip and the distinctive orange-red spot at the base of the pectoral fins.
The Yellowlip Emperor like all Emperors have large eyes for feeding at night. They are a highly valued food fish.
