Yellowfin gobies can be found in fresh, brackish, or salt water. Although not native to the U.S. the have established theirselves securely in the California area.
Yellowfin Gobies require some salinity to spawn. Those residing in freshwater enviroments will travel downstream and those in saltwater will travel inland until the proper salinity is found that is suitable for spawning.
