This fish I have identified as a white marlin even though all identification features aren't visible in the photo such as bill length and anal fin. The other features visible that lead me to my conclusion is spots on the dorsal fin. The top of the dorsal doesn't come to a distinct point, more rounded in whites and the somewhat rounded pectoral fins.
Marlin are one of the fastest fish and put on quite an acrobatic show when they are fought by fisherman. The vast majority of marlin caught by recreational fisherman in the USA are released to fight another day.
