Urchin Clingfish - Diademichthys lineatus

Urchin Clingfish - Diademichthys lineatus

The Urchin Clingfish (Diademichthys lineatus) aka Yellow Stripe Clingfish are found in the reefs of Western Indian Ocean. They can readily be identified by the long body resembling and needlefish or a pipefish but having a yellow dot on the tail and a yellow stripe running the length of its brown body.

The Urchin Clingfish is a predatory fish and preys on parasitic bivalves which helps the health of the coral reefs in which they inhabit. Juvenile fish eat pedicellariae and sphaeridia of the host Diadema and commensal copepods.
