Tautog also known as blackfish are a fish of the Western Atlantic found in shallow waters along the Eastern seaboard of the United States. Tautog can grow to as much as large as 22 pounds but their average size is closer to 2 to 3 pounds.

Tautog are of little commercial value, but are a popular recreational fish. Most tautog are caught by bottom fisherman using clams or something similiar for bait. Because tautog are slow to reproduce thier populations are susceptible to overfishing and that is becoming a problem lately as they gain more attention from commercial fisherman as of late.
