The summer flounder Paralichthys dentatus, range from the Gulf of Maine to South Carolina. They are important commercially and recreationally. Summer flouner get their name from the fact that they migrate to deeper waters during the winter months and are less accessable to fisherman. Summer Flounder are similar to Winter Flounder, however; summer flounder get considerably larger, abd average 3-6 lbs.

Summer flounder are a well know fish where they occur. So why was a picture submitted for identification? Because ALL Summer flounder are suppose to migrate there eyes to the left side. Well as you can see in the picture. One of the flounder pictured above can't tell its right from its left. Which lead to some confusion over its identity.
