Spotted scat are laterally compressed fish, roundish in shape with dark spots over sides. They occur in schools over muddy areas including brackish estuaries, feeds on detritus and benthic algae. Popular aquarium fish, with venomous spines.

Spotted scat live in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Range from Kuwait to southern Japan down through Micronesia the Society Islands down to the Northern parts Australia.
