Smooth Trunkfish

Smooth Trunkfish - Lactophrys triqueter

The Smooth Trunkfish inhabits the saltwarter areas of the eastern and southeastern parts of the United States. Smooth Trunkfish are often encountered in coastal waters and are easily approached by divers. The fish feeds on small invertebrates by blowing jets of water into the sandy ocean bottom.

A gold variety lives in the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary off the coast of Louisiana.
