Above is a picture of a sheepshead minnow. It is hard to see but they have stipes running up and down the sides. The sheepshead minnow is a very fat and deep bodied. Young fish are more slender than larger older specimens. Sheepshead minnows reach a maximum of about 3 inches in length.
Sheepshead minnows range down the atlantic coast from Cape Cod into the Gulf of Mexico and south to Mexico. They live in brackish and salt water.
