The sand sole aka fringe sole, sand flounder, spotted flounder is a right-eyed flatfish. Identification is a bit tedious as no one attribute just gives it away. The dorsal and anal fins often have dull yellow on edges the under side is white. The body shape elongate to oval with a rounded tail fom and a the lateral line is mostly straight other than the small hump at the start. The first few dorsal rays are not attached to membrane. The mouth is large with large teeth.
They reach weights of up to about 5 pounds and live in the Bering Sea and South to Southern California. The are good eating.
