Sammara Squrrelfish

The Sammara Squirrelfish - Neoniphon sammara inhabits the Red Sea and East Africa to the Marquesan and Ducie islands, north to southern Japan, Northern Australia and east the Hawaiian islands.

The Sammara Squirrelfish is a schooling species preferring seagrass beds and reefs. Often found with branching Acropora coral. They feed on small fish, crabs and shrimps mostly at night. They have a venomous spine at the corner of its preopercle and the flesh is edible and has some limited commercial value.
