Ruby snapper Etelis carbunculus inhabit Indo-Pacific water from East Africa to the Hawaiian Islands and from Japan to Australia. The Ruby Snapper as its name implys is colored mainly pink to red. They become white on the lower sides and belly.

Ruby Snapper inhabit rocky bottoms and feed on smaller fish, squid, shrimp and crabs. Ruby Snapper are locally an important food fish.
