Royal Peacock - Cichla intermedia

Royal Peacock

The Royal Peacock is one of 5 recognized species of Peacock bass today! But that number is likely to climb in the near future to as many as 12 or 15 distinct species pending current research. So to it is correct to classify the above peacock today as "Cichla intermedia" but that may not always be the case.

Commonly collectively called peacock bass by Americans in Brazil and Peru the collective term is tucunaré and in many spanish speaking countries of South America you will likely hear the term Pavón.

Regardless of the name all the peacock bass are considered excellent food and gamefish. They are taken on baits very similiar to Largemouth Bass.
