The round goby, Neogobius melanostomus, is an invasive exotic fish native to Europe and Asia. It is currently found in all of the Great Lakes and Lake St. Clair where it was first reported. It is suspected that it was transported to the Great Lakes via the ballast water of ships traveling to Great Lakes.
The round goby like most all gobies is a bottom dwelling fish. The fear is that the round gobies agressive nature and very fast reproductive cycle will allow them to out compete native fish for food as well as spawning habitat.
If you catch a fish you suspect is a round goby (or any suspected exotic for that matter) keep in a bag in your freezer and call (989-356-5102)!
