The River Chub (Nocomis micropogon) is a big member of the Minnow family. They range from the Great lakes South to Northern Georgia. River Chumbs prefer large amounts of gravel and cobble in the waters they occupy. They are often found hiding around boulders, submerged logs and other structure.
During the breeding season, the males develops tubercles on its head and vigorously defended its nest from other males and egg eating predators. You can see a close up of these horns in the picture below.
