Pumpkinseed Sunfish

pumpkinseed-sunfish

Pumpkinseed Sunfish (Lepomis gibbosus) is a native sunfish of the NorthEasten quarter of the contenintal USA but has been introduced in most other states except for the states from New Mexico to Georgia and all states south of that line. Pumpkinseed Sunfish seem to prefer weedy lakes and ponds and slow waters of rivers and streams. The average pumpkinseed is about 6 inches in length but can get twice that size occasionally.

Pumpkinseeds as they are commonly called, are commonly caught by fisherman using any number of natural baits small enough for the little fish to eat.
