Plainfin Midshipman (Porichthys notatus) is a saltwater fish that ranges in the Pacific Ocean from Alaska to the Gulf of California.
Rows of photophores can be seen on the underside with a second row of photophores under the head.
The Plainfin Midshipman lives on sand and mud to depths of 1200 feet and they feed at night on other fishes and crustaceans. It is often caugth by sportfisherman and commercial anglers.
