The Milletseed Butterflyfish is only found in Hawaii and is well known in the Hanauma Bay region. The Milletseed Butterfly fish is flat laterally compressed and reaches only about 6 inches in length. Milletseed Butterfly fish are primarily yellow. The body is speckled with black dots. There is a black dot just before the tail and a black stripe running vertically through the eye.
The Milletseed Butterfly fish is a schooling fish. They feed on the coral polyps in the reef and the sea anemones. So obviously they are associated with coral reefs and are therefore a shallow water fish.
