Masked triggerfish inhabit the Western and Eastern Indian Ocean, Northwest Western Central, Eastern Central and Southwest Pacific Ocean.
They inhabit rocky reefs and in lagoons on open sand. Can be found over sand and rubble patches of seaward reefs. They feed on echinoids, fish, mollusks, tunicates, crustaceans, algae, polychaete worms, foraminiferans and even detritus.
