Maori Wrasse
Ophthalmolepis lineolatus

The Maori Wrasse can be recognised by its color, pattern, and general size shape and fin structure. It is a bit more difficult than some fish because there are different color patterns depending on the age and sex of the fish with intermediate color patterns as the fish progresses from one stage to the next.

Young Maori Wrasse and females are red-orange above and red-orange to white below. Mature males can be recognized by thier black stripe on the side just below the white stripe. Blue scribbly lines on the head also help with id.

The Maori Wrasse is native to Australia around rocks and reefs.
