Longnose Gar Lepisosteus osseus can be identified by the general gar like appearance with a very long snout full of needle sharp teeth. Longnose gar reach weights of up to 50 pounds.

Considered by most to be a trash fish, the fish does however have a small following. But like all other gars the Longnose Gar is considered a trash fish that feeds on or competes with more popular gamefish.

The roe is poisonous to humans, animals and birds. Gars are prehistoric fish that have the somewhat unique ability to gulp air which aids in supplying them with oxygen when in low oxygen waters.
