Hairy Blenny

hairy blenny

The Hairy Blenny (Labrisomus nuchipinnis) inhabits the waters of both the east and west Atlantic Ocean. Their favorite habitats are rocky and rubble shores with algal mats as well as reefs and seagrass beds... basically any place that offers them protection from predators via caves and crevasses.

Pictured above is a hairy blenny showing its mating coloration. Hairy Blennies feed mainly on small crustaceans, gastropods, brittle stars, sea urchins, and fish. Below is a picture of the more typical color pattern.
