Dog Snapper

Dog snapper get their name from the fact that they have a large canine teeth that can be seen even when the fish has its mouth closed. This is a great way to help distinguish them from other similiar snappers. Other characteristics are a light blue interrupted line below the eye; no dark spot on body underneath dorsal fin and a tall narrow triangular shading beneath the eye in all but the young snapper.

Dog Snapper range from Brazil to Maine and most places inbetween. Absent fromt he extreme western Gulf of Mexico.
