The Convict Tang is a member of the surgeonfishes. Often used as pets in aquariums. They are often found in schools. Convict Tang eat marine algae and other marine plants and only rarely eat other smaller animals.
The Convict Tang range throught most of the Indo-Pacific, expect for the waters around the Arabian Peninsula. They range from from eastern Africa to the lower Gulf of California and western coast of Central America.
