Baby Butterflyfish

butterflyfish

Above is a picture of a brand spanking new baby butterflyfish. These fish are reef fish. This one look like a reef butterflyfish but it was caught quite a bit North of their range which I have listed as North Carolina to South Florida and westward into parts of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Reef butterflyfish usually stay deeper than other butterfly fish and are therefore seen less frequently. They young however are found in shallower water which is where this little sucker was netted, photographed and then released.
