Bull Trout - Salvelinus confluentus

Bull Trout This is a bull trout, bull trout are actually char and are on the threatened species list. They are protected in most places and must be released immediately. Identifying marks include olive green to brown coloration with dark sides and red or light colored spots. Bull trout have no black marks on the dorsal fin. During spawning there is often a white streak on the front of the fins from the pectoral to the anal fin. They also have a slightly forked tail and light colored spots with no halo's!

Bull Trout are in a state of declining, particularly in the southern and eastern parts of their range. They are very sensitive to habitat degradation and are an indicator species. They are a cold water species, preferring temperatures less than 15°C. Human activities and developments that cause changes in temperature, substrate composition, habitat, or migration patterns increase the vulnerability of the species. Examples would be logging, mining, hydro development, urban expansion.
