The blue tang range up and down the western Atlantic from New York, the Caribbean, including the Gulf of Mexico, south to Brazil.
Blue tangs are found around coral reefs or rocky areas from very shallow down to slightly more than 100 feet. Blue tangs live in holes and crevices where they are protected from predators at night. Blue tangs lives singly, pairs or small groups.
Blue tangs feed only on algae.
