Blacktail Grubfish - Parapercis hexophtalma


The Blacktail Grubfish (Parapercis hexophtalma) is a member of the Pinguipedidae family. This one was photographed in the Maldives. They range throughout the warm waters of the Indo-western Pacific region, the Red Sea and East Africa to Fiji.

The Blacktail Grubfish is recognised by the large black spot on the tail and the distinctive pattern of lines and dots on its body. They prefer sandy rubble strewn bottoms near or within coral reefs. They are sometimes sold in the for use in aquariums.
