Belted sandfish - Serranus subligarius

Belted sandfish - Serranus subligarius

The belted sandfish occurs from North Carolina around to at least Texas. Probably Cuba and Mexico. It is a small fish that lives in shallow waters. Although it looks like a small grouper it is not associated with coral reefs. Prefers more murky water where it feeds on small fish and crustaceans.
