Barred Surfperch - Amphistichus argenteus range from north Washington down to central Baja California. They can be found schooling along coastal surf zones and reach weights of up to 4 pounds. Barred Surfperch feed mostly on sand crabs and other small crustaceans as well as on fish eggs when available.

Unlike most fish barred surfperch do not lay eggs. The females give birth to live young. These fish are good eating and recreational fisherman often target these fish. Best fishing occurs in the dead of winter.
