Barramundi - Lates calcarifer

Pictured above is a baby Barramundi. Don't let its size fool you these fish grow to enormous sizes. 30 pounders are common and they can grow to much more than twice that size. The Barramundi is a prized freshwater gamefish in Australia and is an excellent table fish. It is also the most important freshwater commercial fish in Australia.

Large Barramundi loose the brownish mottled coloration you see in the juvenile. Adult Barramundi silvery on the sides, and white below. The white stripe from the dorsal fin to the mouth is a characteristic found in juveniles Barramundi to aid in identifying them from other similar looking species.
