Atlantic needlefish range as the name implys in the atlantic ocean. Their range covers most of the Western Atlantic from Maine to Brazil including the Carribean and the Gulf of Mexico.
They are usually found in shallow coastal waters such as marsh, bays but can be found offshore sometimes as well. They can sometimes even venture into freshwater areas.
They can readily be distinguishedby their gar like appearance but having sides of greenish to bluish-green above and silvery below sides and very small scales. They swim on the surface of the water and are attracted to lights at night. They occur singularly or in very small groups.
Atlantic needlefish are not large fish attaining a size of two foot long maximum length.
