Yellow-Poplar

Tree Identification!
yellow-poplar or tulip tree
Yellow-poplar have low value to wildlife. Seeds used to by a few species of birds. Deer do forage on yellow-poplar flowers but availability is inconsistant because wind or squirrels are required to make the flowers available to the deer on ground level. Despite sometimes heavy use by deer, Yellow Poplar flowers have a very lower crude protein content than even the leaves which are more readily available as seedlings, stump resprouts, or small trees, yet the deer prefer the flowers for some reason.
