| White poplar is not native to North America, white poplar is a native of Europe and Asia. Today it can be found in over 40 states.
White poplar outcompetes many native plant species as a pioneering tree (colonizing new or disturbed lands) such as forest edges and in fields, or clear cut areas. This severly interferes with the normal progress of natural community succession. Dense stands of white poplar prevent other native plants from establishing. White poplar has a fair wildlife value providing some browse to deer and some value to a variety of other animals such as small mammals and birds. |
