Tree Identification!
live oak acorn

Live oak (Quercus virginiana), is an evergreen aok tree forming a large spreading crown.

Usually live oak grows on sandy soils of low coastal areas, but it also grows in dry sandy Woods or moist rich woods.

The wood is very heavy and strong but is not often used because of the form of the tree.

Birds and animals eat the acorns. Live oaks are a fast-growing tree and is widely used as an ornamental.

Native Range of the live oak is the lower Coastal Plain of the Southeastern United States from southeastern Virginia south to Georgia and Florida including the Florida Keys; west to southern and central Texas with scattered populations else where.

Flowers are produced every spring, March through May. The acorns, long and tapered and dark brown to black, mature in September of the first year and fall before December.

The Live oak is a fairly consistent producer of acorns and will often produce huge bumper crops with the acorns literally covering the ground.
