Pickerel

pickerel

My father (Jack) and I (Robin)were fishing at dusk with a rebel minnow and after about 30 minutes of nothing my dad got a strike and started reeling it in. I thought it was a largemouth bass at first but after 3 minutes of it not breaking water I realized it wasn't a bass. He fought it for about 5 minutes and finally our reward was a huge 28 inch pickerel. He weighed about 10 pounds, unfortunately there wasn't a weighing station for about 30 miles.

We then let him swim away into the night watching his fins slowly sink into the depths of the lake. The next day same time same spot I got a strike! This was no ordinary fish I fought it for at least 8 minutes. the harder I fought the, more drag he pulled. When I finally got him to the boat he looked about 36 inches long. Then he smiled at me, ran under the boat and snapped my line. Three days later I found my rebel on the shore with all three twouble hooks bent!
